SHAH ALAM: The last prosecution witness in the corruption trial of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is still positive for Covid-19, causing the trial to be postponed for the second time this week.

The case over alleged bribes received by Ahmad Zahid in connection with the Foreign Visa System at the High Court, which was fixed for yesterday, has now been postponed to Aug 10 as the witness, a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission investigating officer, is still unwell.

Earlier on Tuesday, the case was already postponed once after deputy public prosecutor Datuk Raja Rozela Raja Toran told High Court judge Justice Mohd Yazid Mustafa that the witness was down with Covid-19.

At the proceedings yesterday, deputy public prosecutor Abdul Malik Ayob told the judge that the witness had to remain in quarantine until tomorrow.

“With your permission, we would like to request for the trial to be continued on the dates that have been set, which are Aug 10 to 12,” he said.

Lawyer Hamidi Mohd Noh, representing Ahmad Zahid, did not raise any objections.

The court then fixed Aug 10 to 12 to continue the hearing, Bernama reported.
