KOTA KINABALU: A 25-week pregnant woman suffered a miscarriage, while her husband was injured, when the boat they were in was involved in two collisions in the waters off Semporna town.

The 22-year-old local woman is in stable condition after the accident, while her husband, 34, is recovering from slash wounds from the blades of the speedboat engine, Semporna OCPD Supt Farhan Lee Abdullah said.

He said both husband and wife were sent to Hospital Tawau after receiving initial treatment at Hospital Semporna following the incident that occurred around 2pm on Monday.

Supt Farhan said it was learned that the victims were in a boat going from Semporna town towards Kampung Hayang in Pulau Bum Bum when their boat collided with another.

Upon arriving at the waters in front of Dragon Inn on the Semporna mainland, the victims’ boat collided with another vessel navigated by a man in his 20s, causing the couple to fall into the sea.

“They were then rescued by the public,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Police are hunting for the suspect in the second boat.
