KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan is ready to work with coalitions forming the next Federal Government with its president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal saying that they accepted the verdict of the people.

He said they were not the ones to call the shots as they only garnered a small number of seats.

“It is not a matter of who or which bloc we want to work with because we don’t call the shots. We will look at all the angles and decide on who to work with,” he said when asked whether they were willing to work with local blocs or local parties in Sabah.

Shafie said the priority would be given to parties that would ensure Sabah benefits from the formation of the next government and one that also ensured political stability.

He said they could not be wasting the next five years politicking because there was much to be done to improve the livelihood of the people and boost economic growth.

“Although we only have three seats, the coalition that is looking at forming the next Federal Government will need the support from ‘small parties’ like us,” he said.

Shafie said that was why Warisan had been calling for the people to give them the mandate so that they would have more seats to have a stronger voice in government.

He said now that GE15 was over, it was time to move forward and see how best to realise agendas for the people.

Warisan, which had eight seats previously is now down to three – Kota Belud, Lahad Datu and Semporna.

Shafie said Warisan must be pragmatic and realistic at this point, for the sake of Sabahans and the party’s survival.

He said he would not say who or which coalition he would or would not work with, because that was not the main point, but rather, which party would ensure a fair distribution of economic and social development for the state.
