KOTA KINABALU: Attacks against Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, especially its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, have been growing now that the party is getting stronger, says its information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan (pic).

He also said the party will not be affected by the departure of its Ampang MP Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is joining Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

“In fact, the party is getting stronger. We can even see this influence growing in Sabah,” he said during a Bersatu gathering in the state capital on Saturday night.

Wan Saiful believes the growing support for Bersatu was why it has been attacked by other parties, with Muhyiddin being the main target.

He said these other parties are worried about Bersatu’s growing political affiliations, which are being accepted by the people.

“While we did not have enough to win (the state elections) in Melaka and Johor, our support there is growing. That is why other parties want to attack us,” he added.

He said the main target is Muhyiddin, who is the only leader with the credibility to compete for the prime minister’s post.

Asked on his name being one of those from Bersatu as a possible replacement for Zuraida as Plantations Industries and Commodities Minister, Wan Saiful said he would leave it to Muhyiddin to make the recommendation, while it was the Prime Minister’s prerogative to name the minister.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that Zuraida, who quit her party last month, would remain in Cabinet for now.

On a separate matter, Wan Saiful said Bersatu will support the formation of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) with Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as its leader.

He added that the party’s central leadership has full confidence in Hajiji’s capability to lead and understand the situation in Sabah, so that the coalition can offer the best service to the people.
