KOTA BARU: Two General Operations Force (GOF) personnel died after the car they were in rammed the rear of a stalled lorry on the road shoulder at Jalan Rantau Panjang-Pasir Mas.

Pasir Mas police chief ACP Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir said L/Kpl Jerry Layong Nyalin, 32, and Kpl Juna Jembat, 39, from the 8th Battalion in Pengkalan Chepa, here, died on the spot in the accident which occurred at 4.25am yesterday.

“The lorry driver was not in the vehicle when the col- lision occurred.

“The bodies were taken to the Pasir Mas Hospital,” he said in a statement, reported Bernama.

In a separate incident, a lorry driver who was involved in an accident which killed a family of three at KM216 northbound of the North-South Expressway near the Ayer Keroh overhead bridge has been remanded for three days.

The remand order was issued yesterday by Magistrate’s Court assistant registrar Syarina Shaarani @ Tan.

The incident involving a car and a lorry at about 11am on Friday took the lives of a family of three, Zubaidah Abd Rajak and her husband Muhammad Nazirul Syafiq Azmi, both aged 28 and their only child, one-year-old Muhammad Rizqi.

Initial investigations at the scene found that the lorry driver was carrying out repair work on the road divider at the extreme right lane and was in the process of placing safety cones when the car driven by Muhammad Nazirul Syafiq crashed into the lorry.
