SEREMBAN: The 15-month-old child who was found dead in a cloth cradle at a childcare centre here had died from a compression on the neck, say the police.

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Nanda Maarof said the cause of death was determined in an autopsy at Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar.

“We will continue with the probe and 18 people have been identified as witnesses.

“Those who will be called in are the childcare operator, babysitters and parents,” he said yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 31 (1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

Investigations revealed that the centre was not registered with the Welfare Department.

On Tuesday, a babysitter who had fed the victim milk and put her to sleep in a room, found her head dangling from a cloth cradle when she went to check on her an hour later.

She tried to resuscitate the victim but was unsuccessful.

The toddler was rushed to the Sendayan health clinic and four doctors tried to revive her but failed.

There were 15 children, including the deceased, aged between six months and seven years old at the centre when the incident happened.

There were two babysitters, aged 27 and 39, at the centre, which has been operating from a single-storey corner house since the end of 2019.
