SUNGAI BULOH: Tis’ the season for giving, and the Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) and GoCare are doing just that by spreading Christmas joy to underprivileged children through the Toy Story Charity Project 2.0.
Both have teamed up with Creagift, which has re-wrapped toys donated by sponsors with colourful material. It also includes used toys.
The first stop for the Christmas Gift boxes was at Hospital Sungai Buloh’s children’s ward.
CRSM Selangor chief Ch’ng Soo Chau said the project was a unique way of giving back to those in need, especially underprivileged children.
“We worked with Creagift, which helped collect, re-pack and sanitise the donated gifts. All the gifts were packed specifically, and separated for each girl or boy recipient.
“Sungai Buloh Hospital was the first stop, where we distributed 200 gifts,” he said after presenting the boxes to hospital staff members yesterday.
He said there would be a total of five gift distribution events for the children, with coming events planned in Shah Alam and Kiara South.
He said the other two venues had yet to be determined but said it would be done by Christmas Day.
Meanwhile, CRSM is also mobilising volunteers to send flood relief aid to the affected areas and to help flood victims evacuate in Kelantan and Terengganu.
Since Dec 18, CRSM has been fully involved in the flood relief efforts, and would continue in post flood clean-up efforts, said its chairperson Datuk Natalie Lim.
She reminded those concerned to be more cautious about personal safety, to avoid flooded zones, shut off the power mains and refrain from consuming food exposed to floodwater.
CRSM Terengganu chief Poh Cheng Haw said volunteers under his wing had already been mobilised to the affected areas to distribute relief aid to villagers and also care for victims who remained at the temporary relief centres.
Over in Kelantan, CRSM state chief Chan Rui Yih said more evacuation would be necessary if the adverse weather continued.
Chan reminded residents in low-lying areas to be on alert and prepare ahead for evacuation.
