KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists should not stop on the emergency lane without a valid reason to avoid endangering other road users, says Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak.

The advice comes after the newly opened Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) recorded its first accident yesterday when a motorcyclist crashed into a Perodua Myvi at about 2.45pm after the driver stopped to take some photographs.

“The car driver stopped on the emergency lane (city bound) to take photographs of the scenic view before the vehicle was rammed by the motorcyclist.

“Both vehicles sustained damage,” he said yesterday, reported Bernama.

ACP Mohamad Farouk said the motorcyclist suffered leg injuries after ramming into the rear of the parked vehicle.

The incident is being investigated under the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for obstruction resulting in an accident which carries a compound of up to RM300, he added.

He said SUKE was advised to conduct more patrols along the expressway to ensure motorists do not stop their vehicles without valid reason.

Phase One of the SUKE expressway was opened to traffic on Sept 16.
