GEORGE TOWN: The discussion on dissolving six state legislative assemblies between Mentris Besar and Chief Ministers is expected to take place on Feb 21, says Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

“Perhaps the discussion can be held in the third week of February because there is a meeting between Mentris Besar and Chief Ministers with the Prime Minister in Putrajaya, and also a meeting of the Conference of Rulers,” he told reporters yesterday, Bernama reported.

Chow said this when asked about Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun’s proposal to dissolve the legislative assembly there on June 1 to pave the way for the state polls.

Earlier, Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor had hinted that the state assembly would be dissolved after June 18.

He said this was based on several factors, including the fasting month, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the haj season and Hari Raya Aidiladha.

Aminuddin also said that even if Kedah dissolves its assembly after June 18, the polls in the six states could still be held simultaneously.Chow, who is the Penang Pakatan Harapan chairman, said that for the sake of uniformity, the most suitable dates to hold the state polls are in June or July.

Six states – Selangor, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu – must hold their polls this year.
