AMPANG: Six cross-dressers have been detained in a joint raid in Pandan Indah here.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the operation, which was conducted at 10.30pm on Saturday, involved various agencies including the police, Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais), and the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council.

“We detained six transvestites in Pandan Indah, believed to be involved in immoral activities.

“Five of them, who were Muslims, were handed over to Jais for further action while the non-Muslim is being investigated by the police,” he said when contacted yesterday.

One of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine, he said.

ACP Mohamad Farouk added the five Muslim individuals were being investigated under Section 30 Enactment 9 of the Selangor Syariah Criminal Offences 1995, which provides a RM1,000 fine or six months’ imprisonment upon conviction.

“The non-Muslim suspect is being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act,” he said, adding that investigation was also being carried out under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

ACP Mohamad Farouk said the police will continue with such operations to “curb immoral activities” in the district.
