IPOH: The remains of the two female hikers who went missing at Gunung Suku in Simpang Pulai here have been found.

The body of the second victim was found at about 11.15am yesterday, said Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid.

“The Fire and Rescue Department’s canine unit found the body buried in debris, about 1m by the side of Gunung Suku river near KM31 of Jalan Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands,” he added.

He said a search and rescue team, led by the Ipoh OCPD, found the left leg of the first victim at about 5.30pm on May 15.

“They then found a headless upper torso, believed to be of the same victim, the next day at about 10.20am,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The women, identified as See Su Yen, 32, and Ng Yee Chew, 46, were believed to have been swept away by a sudden surge of water and soil while hiking with their group of 29 people on May 15.

Comm Mior Faridalathrash said with the discovery of the remains, the search operation had now concluded.

“All the remains have been sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital forensic unit for post-mortem and identification,” he added.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Muhammad Shahrizal Aris said the body that was found yesterday had injuries on the torso and head.

“We are unable to ascertain the identity of the victim. This needs to be done by the (Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital) forensic unit,” he said, adding that all operations ended at about 1pm.
