KUALA LUMPUR: A big, wild pool party held at an exclusive club has led to a total of RM1.5mil in compound fines for Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) violations.

The 303 partygoers were having a good time until 150 police officers raided the private club at about 10.40pm on Sunday.

The partygoers had reportedly gathered there for the party since 4pm that day.

Comprising 161 foreign men, 55 foreign women and 87 Malaysians, they were detained by police during the raid.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor said that the attendees, who were charged RM60 admission fee each, were invited through social media.

It is learnt that each table at the pool party was offered to guests at a price of between RM1,200 and RM8,000.

The price is determined based on the proximity to the main stage.

Guests were served high-end alcoholic beverages and food.

ACP Amihizam said the club manager and the party organiser were issued RM25,000 compound fines each.

“The 87 locals were issued with a total of RM435,000 in compounds while RM1,080,000 in compounds were issued to 216 foreigners,” he said.

Overall, the total amount in compounds came to RM1,565,000, he told reporters yesterday morning.

“Compounds were issued as those involved in the party did not adhere to Covid-19 standard operating procedure.

“Those detained were brought to the Brickfields district police headquarters for further investigation,” he added.

ACP Amihizam said a urine test later revealed that 23 Malaysians (comprising 14 women and nine men) as well as four foreign men tested positive for drugs.

The raid at the upscale equestrian club was conducted at about 10.40pm on Sunday led by Kuala Lumpur CID deputy chief Asst Comm Nasri Mansor.

It involved 150 officers and personnel from Kuala Lumpur CID and Brickfields district police headquarters.

ACP Amihizam advised the public not to be involved in any activity that is in breach of the Covid-19 SOP.

“We urge those with information on any criminal activity to contact Brickfields police at 03-2297 9222, KL police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or any nearest police station,” he added.
