IPOH: The woman whose charred remains were found on a riverbank in Kampung Talang Hulu in Kuala Kangsar was not pregnant, says Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid.

“It is only speculation on social media. There was an incident in India whereby a woman was gang-raped and burned, and some people on social media tried to relate it to this case,” he said.

He added that a post-mortem found no indication that the 21-year-old woman was pregnant.

A passer-by had discovered her burnt body on the Sungai Kuala Kangsar riverbank on May 31.

A piece of concrete with traces of blood found near the body is believed to be the murder weapon. The woman’s 20-year-old boyfriend was arrested on June 1 after his statement was taken, while four others were detained on June 7.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, Comm Mior Faridalathrash said the motive of the crime was still being investigated.

“It is still (too) early to say that he (the boyfriend) is a prime suspect, but he is related (to the case).

“From the information we gathered, whenever the victim went out, it was either with her family or the boyfriend,” he said, adding that the man would be remanded for a further six days until June 16.

“The four other men detained earlier are still in custody until Monday,” he said.

On a murder case in Parit Buntar last Saturday where an elderly woman was chopped into 15 pieces, allegedly by her son, Comm Mior Faridalathrash said the investigation had been completed.

“We have arrested a 42-year-old suspect. The investigation papers will be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor’s office soon for the next course of action,” he said.
