As of 2020, 7% of Malaysia’s population is over the age of 65, meeting the classification for “ageing society” according to international conventional definitions, reports the World Bank.
By 2044, the percentage is expected to double to 14%, making Malaysia an “aged society”, and by 2056, the country will become a “super-aged society” with over 20% of the population older than 65.
