IPOH: More young professionals will be given the opportunity to represent MCA in the 15th General Election (GE15), says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

“It will be a team of youth to give a breath of fresh air so that the people will have new options.

“It is more notable in Perak, with a lot of them in their 30s.

“We have appointed coordinators (for constituencies) who comprise professionals, PhD holders, engineers and university graduates,” the party president told a press conference after opening the Perak MCA convention here yesterday.

Dr Wee, who is also the Transport Minister, added that some former candidates would also be contesting while providing guidance to the new ones.

“It will be a solid and stable team of youth and experienced people,” he said.

When asked whether there would be seat-swapping between Barisan Nasional parties for certain areas that were traditionally contested by MCA, Dr Wee said component party leaders will discuss this.

“We will always sit and discuss to find good formulas to ensure victory for Barisan.

“So far, no seats have been finalised yet.

“It is also important to have unity between component parties to ensure we can win,” he added.

Earlier in his speech, Dr Wee urged party members to be united.

“Whatever differences party members have between them, let’s put everything behind and move forward together,” he added.

He also said while MCA was encouraged by the results of the Melaka and Johor state elections, it will not be complacent.

“GE15 will be different. We will need to ensure our work is relevant to the people and to always listen to them,” he added.
