KUALA LUMPUR: New daily Covid-19 cases surged almost 32% during the week with Thursday’s figure at 2,033.

Based on CovidNow data from the Health Ministry, for the six days from June 11-16, a total of 11,647 new daily cases were registered compared with 8,812 cases over the same period from June 4-9.

Thursday’s new cases brought the nation’s active cases with probable infection to 24,577 while total cumulative cases stood at 4,534,665 since the pandemic hit over two years ago.

Bernama reported that Selangor had the most with 685 cases on Thursday, followed by Kuala Lumpur (551), Penang (167) and Perak (116).

Other states which reported two-digit new daily cases were Negri Sembilan (94), Johor (68), Kedah (62), Melaka (59), Sarawak (38), Putrajaya (37), Pahang (28) and Kelantan (17).

Only two states recorded single digit figures, namely Terengganu (eight) and Perlis (four) while Labuan had zero cases.

As for Sabah, the number of cases crossed the three-digit mark yesterday after more than two months of just double-digit infections.

A total of 115 cases were reported yesterday, an increase of 16 from Thursday’s 99.
