KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah have extended their 2022 New Year’s Day greetings and prayers for the wellbeing of the people and the country.

“May we be protected from all forms of calamities and be blessed with prosperity and everlasting unity and harmony,” Their Majesties said in a post on the Istana Negara’s Facebook page.

Unlike before, the eve of the New Year was filled with solat hajat and doa selamat programmes as a sign of respect and sympathy for the people affected by the floods.

In his live telecast on national television, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the resilience of the Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) spirit remained resilient, despite being thoroughly tested last (2021) year.

“Based on this confidence, I would like to take this opportunity to wish a Happy New Year to the Malaysian Family. With the arrival of 2022, I pray that it will grant all of us fresh hope, coming from a year that saw Covid-19 hitting a peak of 24,599 cases a day, and causing 393 deaths on Aug 26.

“With the new year, let us bring forth a new shine for the Malaysian Family, to make resolutions to celebrate our togetherness, and set aside out differences. Please work with me and partners in government to continue the development agenda for our country,” he said.
