IPOH: A 25-year-old unemployed man claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to two charges of abusing his girlfriend’s six-year-old daughter.

The jobless man pleaded not guilty when the charges under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act were read to him before Sessions Court Judge Azizah Ahmad yesterday.

He was said to have committed the offences, which led to physical injuries, at the girl’s rented home here on Nov 25 last year and Feb 14.

When requesting the court for a lower bail, his lawyer Dayang Nor Emilia Azman Shah said the accused has a four-month-old baby with the victim’s mother and had lost his job as a lorry driver.

Azizah set bail at RM3,000 for each charge with one surety and March 22 for mention.

When met after the court proceedings, Dayang Nor Emilia said the accused and the victim’s mother were not married but had stayed together. She also said that the accused’s family, from Negri Sembilan, would post bail.

In an unrelated case in the same courtroom, Faizan Ashfaq Ahmed, 47, was fined RM6,000 in default two months’ jail for using uncertified communication equipment at his home in Kampung Dendang, Manjung.

Faizan pleaded guilty after being read the charge under Regulation 16(1)(b) of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations, which was read together with Regulation 16(3) of the same regulations.

Faizan, who was not represented, had used the equipment, which included one unit of Ku-band satellite broadcast antenna and one decoder unit at his home on June 28, 2022.
