PUTRAJAYA: Those travelling for the Chinese New Year celebration are reminded to remain vigilant and stay safe while on the road.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said everyone should also follow the Covid-19 standard operating procedures while celebrating the Year of the Tiger.

“Remember to rest and stay alert when behind the wheel. Many of us are returning home to our families for the first Chinese New Year reunion since the pandemic began two years ago.

“Let’s always adhere to the Covid-19 safety protocols to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe and healthy for an enjoyable and joyous festive season,” he said yesterday.

Dr Wee who is MCA president, also wished a happy and prosperous Chinese New Year to those celebrating.

“May we move forward with much strength, vitality and good health in the Year of the Tiger,” he added.

In an Instagram post earlier, Dr Wee, decked in a red shirt, necktie and face mask, said he was still attending meetings although the Chinese New Year celebration was just hours away.

“This morning, I attended the National Action Council on Cost of Living meeting to present and provide input from the Transport Ministry’s perspective.

“This meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and done virtually,” he said.

Social media users commended Dr Wee’s attire and said wearing red invited more good fortune his way.

Meanwhile, MCA is hosting a Chinese New Year celebration at San Choon Hall, Wisma MCA in Kuala Lumpur today.

Ismail Sabri is among the VIPs scheduled to attend the event.
