PETALING JAYA: Labour Day holiday will automatically be carried over to Wednesday (May 4) as Hari Raya Aidilfitri falls on Monday (May 2), says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic).

The Prime Minister said in line with the official announcement of Hari Raya Aidilfitri for 2022 by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal that 1 Syawal 1443H, Hari Raya Aidilfitri of 2022 falls on Monday (May 2).

“The Labour Day Holiday will automatically be carried over to Wednesday (May 4).

“This is in line with the provisions of Section 3 of the Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369), Holidays Ordinance (Sabah Cap. 56) and Public Holidays Ordinance (Sarawak Cap. 8),” he said in a statement on Sunday (May 1).

Ismail Sabri, however said, the automatic Labour Day replacement holiday does not apply to the Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan and Johor because Labour Day falls on a Sunday which is a working day in those states.

“However, it is subject to the decision of the local authority of the respective states to make any announcements regarding the leave.

“This is in line with the provisions of Section 3 of the Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369), Sabah’s Holidays Ordinance (Chapter 56), Sarawak’s Public Holidays Ordinance (Chapter 8),” he said in a statement on Sunday (May 1).

On Sunday (May 1), the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad announced that Muslims in Malaysia will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Monday (May 2).

“In keeping with the command of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, following the consent of the Rulers, I hereby declare that the date for Hari Raya for the states in Malaysia has been set for Monday, May 2, 2022,” he said.

The announcement was broadcast over local television networks.

After two years of celebrating Syawal in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, this time around Muslims in Malaysia get to celebrate Aidilfitri during the transition to the endemic phase, which began on April 1.
