SHAH ALAM: It’s day two into the devastating floods and folks trapped in their houses in Taman Sri Muda are facing another night of cold and desperation.

In his tweet, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari joined a rescue mission in Taman Sri Muda in an effort to evacuate stranded victims.

He said besides having to go through the floodwaters, the rescue operation was also hampered by numerous other obstacles.

“The challenges faced besides the floodwaters which have yet to recede is the pitch-black environment and abandoned vehicles, making it hard to navigate,” Amirudin said.

Meanwhile, a video post by the ‘Sahabat Bossku’ page on Facebook titled ‘Orang Sri Muda Jerit Minta Tolong’ (Seri Muda folks screaming for help) was making its round on social media.

The video showed a short clip of houses in the dark, with sounds of people yelling, which the video claimed to be a cries for help from the people of Taman Sri Muda, still trapped on their roofs and waiting for help.

Earlier, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis told Bernama that the floods that hit the Klang Valley due to incessant rain from Friday morning (Dec 17) were beginning to recede.

However, he pointed out that there were areas near rivers where the water seemed to be stagnant, such as in Taman Sri Muda.

Bernama’s aerial survey onboard the department’s helicopter also showed most routes and terrace houses were still flooded around the Taman Sri Muda area.
