Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4

Almost exactly a year after the unveiling of the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro, the company has revealed a new, stretched version of the same tablet. Called simply the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4″, the increased size is essentially the gist of the difference between this new model and the original from last year.

Despite the 27% increased screen real estate, the resolution of the display on the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4″ remains the same, which is 2560 x 1600. It even keeps the same 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10 support and 500 nits brightness. That being said, there are some surprising downgrades. Specifically, the previous 240Hz sampling rate has been pushed down to 120Hz, and the formerly 10-bit panel is now an 8-bit panel.

With a larger size usually comes a larger battery, and the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4″ fulfils that expectation. Where the original 11-inch model had a 8600mAh battery, this one has a 1000mAh battery, which the company claims can last “2.13”days. It also supports the same 67W charging that can fully charge the battery in 68 minutes. But all this is packed within a slightly thinner 6.66mm body.

For its brain, the Pad 5 Pro 12.4″ has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset. Paired with USB-C 3.2 Gen1, this means that it can also support an external monitor over DisplayPort. On the software side of things, you get MIUI 13, which is based on Android 12. For cameras, the tablet sports the familiar 50MP sensor that was exclusive to the 5G model of the original. This is accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor. In front, the tablet sports a 20MP camera.

The Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4″ comes in three configurations. The first is 6GB + 128GB which has a price of CNY3000 (~RM1976). Then there’s the 8GB + 256GB combo, accompanied by a CNY3500 (~2306RM) price tag. Finally, the top-of-the-line model has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with a price of CNY4200 (~RM2767). No word on a local release just yet.
