It appears that Xiaomi may soon introduce a Lite variant of its recently launched flagship series, the Xiaomi 13. Most interestingly, it is believed that the allegedly upcoming entry will be a repurposed version of the Civi 2 smartphone (pictured above) that launched exclusively in China back in September last year.
What led to this speculation is the device’s recently discovered entry in the Google Play Console database by Mysmartprice, revealing similar hardware specifications as the brand’s second generation China-exclusive midrange smartphone. More specifically, the Xiaomi 13 Lite is listed to feature a display with 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution, Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, an Adreno 644 GPU, up to 7.6 GB of RAM, and runs on Android 12 out of the box.
Also included in the database entry is an image of the Xiaomi 13 Lite which, strangely enough, depicts the first Xiaomi Civi smartphone from 2021, though we suspect that this may just be a placeholder for the actual product. On that note, we also wouldn’t discount the possibility that the phone’s specifications aren’t finalised either, especially with the peculiar RAM capacity.
It is not unlikely for Xiaomi to release an entry-level variant of its flagship smartphone releases. In fact, the brand followed up on its Xiaomi 12 series with a Lite model that launched in Malaysia last year in August for RM 1,699.
Furthermore, it wouldn’t be a bad thing if the Xiaomi 13 Lite is based on the brand’s China-only midrange series, as the phone does pack a decent set of both hardware and features. To recap, Civi 2 sports a 6.55-inch curved display with FHD+ resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, 240 Hz touch sampling rate, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support, as well as featuring full DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage. Under its hood is the aforementioned Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, along with 12 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage, and a 4,500 mAh battery with 67 W fast charging via USB-C.
Imaging-wise, on the back of the phone is a triple camera setup which consists of a 50 MP Sony IMX766 primary, a 20 MP Sony IMX 376K ultra-wide, and a 2 MP macro sensor. Situated in front is a dual 32 MP front-facing camera setup housed within a pill-shaped cutout on the display, while situated on the upper bezel is a dual-tone front-facing lighting system to provide lighting for selfies, vlogging, and video conferencing.
In China, the Civi 2 is offered at a starting price of CNY 2,399 (~RM 1,549) and is available in White, Pink, Blue and Black colours. As for the Xiaomi 13 Lite, the company has yet to actually officially confirm its existence, so the phone’s pricing and availability are still anyone’s guess at this current point in time.
