vivo might be announcing a new mid-range smartphone here soon, as it did yesterday in our neighbouring country of Singapore. The device has been spotted on the SIRIM database, meaning that a local launch is imminent.

The Y78 is listed under the model name V2244 by VTalent Business Sdn Bhd, which received approval on 25 May. Though the pricing and availability are unknown, the brand quietly listed the phone on its Singapore website, but interestingly, it has some different specs from the one already being sold in China and is more similar to the Y78 Plus.

With that, it is likely that the variant coming to Malaysia will have the same specs, so we already know what to expect. It sports a 6.78-inch 1080p OLED display with curved edges, a refresh rate of 120Hz, a peak brightness of 1,300 nits, and an under-display fingerprint sensor just like the Plus.

Under the hood is where we see the biggest difference from the Chinese version. Instead of a MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chipset, the Singaporean version runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

On the camera side, the back features a 64MP main camera with OIS, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor, while the front punch-hole cutout houses a 16MP selfie snapper. This differs from both models in China, which have 50MP primary cameras and 8MP selfie lenses.

Powering the mid-ranger is a 5,000mAh battery with support for 44W wired fast charging. Moreover, it ships with Funtouch OS 13 based on Android 13 and is rated at IP54 for dust and water resistance.

The vivo Y78 comes in two colours, namely gold and black, both with a gradient effect. Just as with the Singaporean market, the brand has yet to officially announce the local pricing and availability.
