vivo has added a new smartphone to its Y series lineup, the Y52t. The device seems to be a lower-end variant of last year’s Y52 5G, coming with fewer cameras, slower charging, and a slightly smaller screen with a cheaper price tag.

The Y52t sports a 6.51-inch LCD flat display with a standard refresh rate of 60Hz, though the peak brightness level has not been listed by the company. Running on OriginOS Ocean based on Android 12, the phone has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and face recognition support, but unfortunately lacks any rating for water and dust resistance.

Under the hood, vivo has made no changes to the t-variant, which uses the same MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset as the standard model. It comes with 8GB of RAM and between 128GB and 256GB of storage, with a microSD card slot for storage expansion of up to 1TB.

The camera module is the most noticeable downgrade on the vivo Y52t, where it features a 13MP main shooter instead the Y52’s 48MP sensor. Additionally, it comes with a 2MP macro lens and no depth sensor, though the missing latter is unlikely going to make much of a difference. Meanwhile, the front selfie camera uses an 8MP sensor, with up to 2x digital zoom.

Powering the Y52t is the same 5,000mAh battery with an advertised battery life of 15.3 hours. The charging speed of the new phone is only 10W and as expected of a budget device, it lacks support for wireless charging. As for connectivity, it has support for 5G, Bluetooth 5.1, dual-band Wi-Fi, and it is equipped with a 3.5mm audio jack.

The vivo Y52t comes in three colours: blue, pink, and black. The base model with 8GB+128GB costs CNY1,399 (~RM909) in China while the 8GB+256GB version retails at CNY1,599 (~RM1,039). The company has not yet announced the newer handset’s pricing or availability for other markets.
