Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 Malaysia

While we still have no information regarding the rollout of Odyssey Ark into Malaysia, we have just learned that Samsung has recently released the Odyssey Neo G8 in our market. As per our previous report, this particular gaming monitor was first introduced by Samsung as the world’s first 4K curved screen with a 240Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time back at CES earlier this year.

Also known as the Odyssey G85 according to Samsung Malaysia’s website, we have stumbled upon the gaming monitor in the Gloo booth at the ongoing Malaysia IT Fair in Mid Valley Megamall. You may not be noticed from the pictures but the Neo G8 is a massive monitor given its 32-inch screen size.

Oddly enough, this unit somehow has an NVIDIA G-Sync logo on it even though Neo G8 is an AMD FreeSync Premium Pro monitor. Regardless of that, it should work fine whether you are Team Green or Team Red.

Aside from its high refresh rate and screen curvature, the VA-based monitor has also been equipped with Mini LED backlight that has 1,196 local dimming zones together with a matte coating to reduce unnecessary reflections. It also features Quantum HDR 2000 technology that allows the Neo G8 to deliver peak brightness of 2,000 nits as well as a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

To allow games to take advantage of the monitor’s extremely high refresh rate, it’s just natural that Samsung has opted to equip the Neo G8 with HDMI 2.1 port while it is also a FreeSync Premium Pro-certified model. Furthermore, HDCP 2.2 support is also a standard on the monitor, so that users would not encounter any copy protection issue when they want to view 4K contents on the Neo G8.

Just like the humongous Neo G9 that we reviewed earlier this year, the back area of the Neo G8 also features CoreSync lighting that matches and projects the colour of the on-screen content to help provide a more immersive viewing experience. Not to forget, the monitor features an adjustable stand that allows users to set its tilt, swivel, and height level.

Unfortunately, this monitor does not come with built-in speakers though. In addition to that, it is not a Smart Monitor model, unlike the Odyssey Ark which is pre-installed with Tizen operating system and can run selected streaming services as well as Microsoft 365 apps by itself.

Samsung Odyssey Offers Malaysia IT Fair 22

While its price tag was not mentioned on Samsung Malaysia’s website, the Neo G8 can be obtained through various authorized Samsung Odyssey dealers for RM 6,699. However, SNS Network is currently offering the monitor at Malaysia IT Fair for RM 5,699 which will last until this Sunday, 28 August and customers will be provided with a Machdesk MD39 monitor arm together with a monitor cleaning kit alongside their new Neo G8.
