Xiaomi will reportedly add another device to the “12” lineup in the form of the Redmi 12. The entry-level Redmi 12C was launched on New Year’s Eve while the brand also unveiled its latest mid-range series, the Note 12, earlier this month. This phone is expected to be the successor to the Redmi 10 from two years ago and will supposedly be a bit higher-end than the 12C.

Not much is known about the phone yet but its name is likely confirmed as it has recently been spotted in an IMEI database as well as at the FCC. Rumours are that phone will get an international release, but it is unclear as to which regions will get it as of now.

The latest update on the phone is that it will reportedly support 33W fast charging, which means it might get a USB-C port instead of the 12C’s outdated microUSB port. It is speculated that the Redmi 12 will be powered by a 5,000mAh battery, but that’s still unconfirmed, although it wouldn’t be a surprise as that is a standard capacity for recent smartphones.

Other details that have emerged include that the Redmi 12 will be a 4G-only device and it will run ship with MIUI 14, although it is uncertain whether it will be based on Android 12 or 13. This would certainly be an upgrade as the 12C, which became available locally just last month, runs on MIUI 13 based on Android 12.

For reference, the Redmi 12C sports a 6.71-inch 720p display with a 60Hz refresh rate. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with only 10W charging as it is fitted with a microUSB port.

The phone features a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which is expandable via a microSD card slot. For the cameras, it packs a 50MP primary lens as well as a depth sensor, while the display houses a 5MP selfie snapper.
