Alongside the new P60 flagship smartphone series, Huawei also announced the Watch Ultimate, its latest wearable that’s aimed towards adventurers, endurance athletes, and divers. The device is both premium and rugged at the same time, akin to watches such the Omega Seamaster, Tissot Seastar, Tag Heuer Aquaracer and so on. Of course, what sets the new Huawei timepiece apart from those mentioned is the fact that it is a smartwatch.

To ensure its survivability against rough terrain and deep waters, the Watch Ultimate sports a zirconium-based liquid metal case, with ceramic bezel and rear case, 2.3 mm sapphire glass screen protection, and a choice of either a HNBR rubber or titanium alloy straps. The smartwatch complies with ISO 22810:2010 and EN 13319 standards, and is also rated at 10 ATM – meaning that it is capable of withstanding pressure equivalent to 100 metres of still water depth for 10 minutes.

However, Huawei notes that the product is not a professional waterproof watch and its splash, water and dust protection performance may decrease due to daily wear and tear. Owners are recommended to rinse the watch slowly with clean water as well as letting it soak and dry after using it in seawater.

Specs-wise, found on the case of the Watch Ultimate is a 1.5-inch circular LTPO AMOLED touchscreen with 466 x 466 pixel resolution, a rotating crown on the top-right, and two pusher buttons on both sides. Also onboard are numerous sensors that can track heart rate, air pressure, depth and so on, built-in speaker and microphone, as well as GPS, NFC and Bluetooth support.

In terms of features, the smartwatch comes with numerous health and fitness tracking functions such as TruSeen 5.0 heart rate monitoring, TruSleep 3.0 sleep tracking, as well as built-in ECG, and SpO2 monitoring. There’s also Strava and Runtastic integrations, and a new Expedition Mode which uses dual-frequency five-system GNSS positioning capabilities to provide accurate mapping and positioning. Of course, usual smartwatch functions such as notifications, remote calling and so on are available onboard as well.

Huawei promises that the 530 mAh battery on the Watch Ultimate is capable of lasting up to 14 days on a single charge when used typically, and up to eight days if used actively. Charging is done wirelessly, and is claimed to take only 60 minutes in order to achieve a full top-up.

In China, the Watch Ultimate is priced at CNY 5,999 (~RM 3,885) for the Expedition Black colour option which comes with rubber straps, and CNY 6,999 (~RM 4,533) for the Voyage Blue variant that comes with titanium alloy straps. For now, Huawei has confirmed that the device is slated to be released in the UK and Europe starting 3 April onwards.

While its availability for other regions is still unconfirmed, those in Malaysia who are looking forward to the Huawei Watch Ultimate will be glad to know that we’ve discovered a listing of the new wearable in SIRIM’s database. According to the entry, the watch (model number CLB-B19) was recently approved by the organisation earlier this month on 2 March 2023, meaning that a local launch is imminent and may happen sometime soon in the very near future.
