Public transport operator Rapid KL has recently announced that the MRT Putrajaya Line will have longer intervals than usual for a period of over four weeks. Starting tomorrow on 22 November until 18 December 2022, its trains will be affected by the final test runs of the line’s Phase 2 expansion that is set to open in January of next year.
More specifically, Rapid KL says trains will have frequencies of eight minutes during peak hours and 12 minutes for non-peak hours. Keep in mind that the increased intervals only applies to the newer MRT line, while the MRT Kajang Line that connects Kwasa Damansara to Kajang is unaffected.
For the uninitiated, the first phase for the MRT Putrajaya Line opened to the public on 16 June this year, introducing a total of 12 stations which covers a distance of 17.5 km. The stations involved include Kwasa Damansara, Kampung Selamat, Sungai Buloh, Damansara Damai, Sri Damansara Barat, Sri Damansara Sentral, Sri Damansara Timur, Metro Prima, Kepong Baru, Jinjang, Sri Delima, and Kampung Batu.

Meanwhile, Phase 2 will introduce 28 more stations between Kampung Batu to Putrajaya Sentral, including an underground portion that connects 13 stations from Jalan Ipoh to Kuchai. The remainder of the line will also feature multiple intersecting stops with other train lines; including Sungai Buloh, Sri Damansara Timur and Ampang Park stations, which connects to the LRT Kelana Jaya Line; Kwasa Damansara and Tun Razak Exchange stations, which to the MRT Kajang Line; Titiwangsa and Chan Sow Lin stations, which connects to the LRT Ampang Line; Chan Sow Lin and Sungai Besi stations, which connects to the LRT Sri Petaling Line; and finally Putrajaya Sentral, which connects to the ERL KLIA Transit and Express line.
Once officially launched, this would bring the total number of stations under the MRT Putrajaya line to 36, spanning a distance of 57.7 km. The entirety of the new line is slated to be fully opened to the public in January 2023, though no specific date has been determined yet.
