Your web browser would not normally be what you’d go for if you were looking to play games on a PC. Unless, of course, your were looking specifically for browser games. On that note, Microsoft is testing a dedicated Games panel on its Edge browser.
Reddit user u/Leopeva64 has shared that this Games panel is only available to some users in the latest version of Edge Canary, where new features get tested. It’s also disabled by default, so it has to be manually turned on via the Games button via the Appearance option in the browser’s settings.
When turned on, this adds the Games button on the omnibar, the series of shortcuts next to the web address bar. Click on it and a panel opens up on the right, showing a collection of HTML5 games that you can play without having to download anything. They’re also sorted into categories including Arcade, Microsoft classics, Board & Card, Puzzle and Sports, among others.
As mentioned, this Games button and panel is only available to some users of the most current version of Microsoft Edge Canary. It remains to be seen if this is a feature that will find its way to the stable release sometime in the future. But then again, even if it does, it’s difficult to imagine who will actually be making use of this beyond the most casual of gamers. If anything, you’re probably better off playing the browser’s surfing game which, at the time of writing, has turned into a skiing game.
