Last weekend, PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst tweeted that the Guerrilla Games hit Horizon Zero Dawn sold over 20m copies across PC and its original PS4 platform. These are nice numbers for the company to look at, considering the sequel is about to be released in a couple of days. Not so nice to look at, though is a sudden price jump the game has gotten, at least on Steam.
Previously sporting an RM80 price tag, Horizon Zero Dawn now has a price of RM209, more than doubling its asking price. The PlayStation store does not seem to be facing the same problem, as both the base game and Complete Edition are still listed as costing RM79 at the time of writing.

It’s not an issue that’s exclusive to Malaysia either. SteamDB shows that a lot of other countries outside of the US, UK and EU have seen a similar price jump for Horizon Zero Dawn, though to varying severity.
For a number of these price changes though, it looks like the regional pricing switch got turned off, with prices matching the US dollar price. In fact, the new RM209 price very closely matches the US$49.99 price, which translates to about RM290.20.
At any rate, it’s a pretty egregious price hike that coincided with the 20 million copies sold announcement. Whether there’s a relationship between the two remains to be seen. But if you’ve never bought Horizon Zero Dawn before now, it looks like that ship has sailed, and there’s no indication as to when it will return to its RM80 price.
