Gigabyte officially launched the S55U, its latest gaming monitor, for the market. Specifically, the monitor is a 4K gaming monitor that comes in at a massive 54.6-inches.

The S55U now overshadows the brand’s other gaming monitor, the AORUS FV43U, which as its name suggests, ships out to market at 43-inches. Specs-wise, the new gaming monitor sports a Quantum Dot VA panel, courtesy of Samsung, and has a 96% DCI-P3 and 140% sRGB colour accuracy.

As mentioned earlier, the S55U’s maximum resolution of 4K (3840 x 2160), along with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz and a GTG response time between 2ms and 5ms. Further, the monitor supports all manners of HDR through Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and has a peak brightness of 500 nits. There’s also two 10W speakers built into it that also support Dolby Atmos and DTS HD.

Ports-wise, the S55U comes with two HDMI 2.1 ports, one of which supports eARC, two HDMI 2.0 ports, two USB-A 3.2  Gen1 ports for upstream and downstream, a stand alone USB 2.0 port, an earphone jack, and one LAN port. Interestingly, the monitor also comes with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support.

As to why the latter two features are present, that is also due to the S55U doubling as an Android-powered display, and even comes with Android-centric apps pre-installed, including YouTube, Netflix. Oh, and it also supports Chromecast, making it an ideal device for streaming your favourite shows directly from your mobile device, be it a smartphone or tablet.

Like all gaming monitors, the S55U also features some built-in software that would help gamers, including an Aim Stabiliser Sync, Crosshair, Black Equaliser, 6-axis Colours Control, and Noise Reduction to name a few.

Given the size of the S55U, it’s also not the lightest of gaming monitors on the market. Out of the box and fully assembled, the monitor sits in at a net weight of 18.1kg. All in all, it’s the base of the monitor that really needs the heft, otherwise, you’re going to have a display panel that’s jiggling about or tipping over, even with the gentlest of touches.

At the time of writing, Gigabyte Malaysia did not specify local pricing or availability.
