Garmin Fenix 7 Series Epix smartwatch official

Garmin Malaysia has announced that the new Fenix 7 series and Epix smartwatches, which were initially released in the US last month, will see a local launch on 23 February 2022. According to the brand’s local Facebook page, the event and roadshow will be held at IOI City Mall in Putrajaya this Wednesday, with the latter slated to run until 27 February.

To quickly recap, the Garmin Fenix 7 series will be available in three different models and sizes: the 42mm Fenix 7S, 47mm Fenix 7, and the 51mm Fenix 7X. All three are equipped with touchscreen displays, fiber-reinforced polymer with stainless steel bodies, and are rated 10 ATM in terms of water resistance. The 7X model, meanwhile, features a side-mounted LED flashlight with strobe light functionality.

In addition, the trio are also offered in either Solar or Sapphire Solar editions. The major difference being that latter comes with titanium bodies and sapphire glass for extra durability.

The Garmin Epix, on the other hand, features a 1.3-inch always-on OLED touchscreen with Sapphire glass and is offered in a single 47mm size. The smartwatch is available in either Slate Steel or Titanium bodies – both of which also come with a water resistance rating of 10 ATM. Unlike the Fenix 7 series, however, the Epix model does not feature solar-based charging.

In terms of onboard features, both the Fenix 7 series and the next-gen Epix come with various smart features, first party fitness and health apps, and satellite navigation. They also are equipped with a variety of tracking abilities, which includes heart rate, respiration, sleep, and women’s health monitoring.

For battery life, Garmin claims that the Fenix 7S can last up to 90 hours for the standard version, and 162 hours for the solar variant. The vanilla Fenix 7 is said to last up to 136 hours for standard and 289 hours for solar, whereas the 7X model could last up to 213 hours and 578 hours respectively. Meanwhile, the Epix model is said to be able to last up to 16 days on a single charge, and up to six days with the always-on display enabled.

As you’d expect, Garmin will only reveal the pricing for the new Fenix 7 series and the Epix model during the upcoming launch this Wednesday. Using the US launch as reference, the standard Fenix 7 and the Fenix 7S are offered at a starting price of US$700 (~RM2,935), while the Fenix 7X starts from US$900 (~RM3,773). The Epix smartwatch, on the other hand, retails at US$900 (~RM3,773) for the Slate Steel variant, and US$1,000 (~RM4,193) for the Titanium version.
