There has been a swath of speculations about what Elon Musk plans to do once he joins Twitter’s board of directors. However, now it seems the billionaire won’t be a decision-maker for the platform after all, at least not in an official capacity.

Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal has put out a statement saying that while Musk was supposed to be elected to the board on 9 April, the Tesla CEO communicated that same day that he decided to reject the offer. Neither Agrawal nor Musk have revealed the reason for this decision.

This comes as a surprise as Musk has recently been actively polling his followers on changes he wants to recommend. This includes his thoughts on new features for Twitter Blue, his desire to have an edit button, and a suggestion to convert the Twitter HQ in San Fransisco into a homeless shelter.

Last week, Elon Musk declared in an SEC filing that he had recently bought a 9.2% stake in the social media company, making him the single largest shareholder. While he won’t be on the board, his large share makes him difficult for the company to ignore, with Agrawal saying that the company will remain open to his input.
