Back in December last year, we reported that the China-based portable gaming console brand, AyaNeo, had delayed the announcement of its self-named Next console to just before CES 2022 was supposed to kick off. We now understand, to some degree, why the company did that.

As per a very lengthy explanation on its official website, the company chose to delay the launch of its Next console, in order to coincide with the official launch of AMD’s official announcement of its next-generation Ryzen 6000 series Mobile APUs. However, despite the grand unveiling, the AyaNeo Next won’t even be fitted with the new APU series. Instead, the company has chosen to have it run on a Ryzen 7 5825U, one of the latest Zen 3-based APUs that was also quietly announced during AMD’s CES 2022 presentation.

The Ryzen 7 5825U, codenamed Barcelo-U, is based on a refreshed Cezanne architecture and also comes equipped with 8 Vega GPU cores, running at 1.8GHz. As for the CPU portion of the APU, there are a total of 8-cores, 16-threads, with a combined L2 and L3 Cache of 20MB, and a maximum boost clock of 4.5GHz. On a related note, it also seems that AyaNeo will offer two versions of the Next console, with the second model housing a Ryzen 7 5800U.

Having said all that, AyaNeo did also confirm that it still plans on releasing a Next console powered by AMD’s Ryen 6000 Series Mobile APU, but that may only be a reality sometime at the end of the year, which is quite frankly, still a long way away for us all. The company’s owner says that to have done earlier would mean that the “difficulty is too high”, and on top of that, the company’s factory is too small.
