Another day, another new rumour has been churned out by NVIDIA’s own mill. Much like the previous reports, the latest piece of gossip surrounds the GPU maker’s unreleased GeForce RTX 4080 and 4070 GPUs and more specifically, their new power requirements.
As usual, the source of the rumours is none other than serial hardware leakster, Kopite7Kimi (@kopite7kimi). According to Kopite, the RTX 4080 now has a requirement of 320W, which is down from 420W, while the RTX 4070 is now expected to have a board power requirement of 285W, instead of 320W. Do note that these numbers are not the cards’ TDP but the total board power, the latter usually being higher than the GPU’s power consumption. As of this publication, the actual TDP of the card remain a mystery.
We can expect RTX 4080 with 320W and RTX 4070 with 285W.

Around the same time, another Twitter user and prominent rumour monger by the name Elysian Realm (@KittYYuko), who is also formerly known as KittyCorgi, tweeted about another GeForce RTX 40 series GPU that fell somewhere between the spectrum of the RTX 4090 and 4080. Supposedly, this particular Lovelace GPU is designated as PG139-SKU340, is fitted with the AD102-250 GPU, offers 14848 CUDA cores, but above all else, will ship out with a giddy 20GB GDDR6X.
Based on the amount of graphics memory and CUDA cores alone, one could argue that the GPU in question could be an RTX 4080 Ti. However, given NVIDIA’s launch and release patterns of its graphics cards, this seems more likely to be a pipedream at the moment, more than a possible reality of the company being ready to breakaway from its standard operating procedures.

NVIDIA is expected to launch its next-generation GeForce RTX 40 series later this year and more specifically, sometime in October. After the launch, the cards are then expected to be released into the market on a monthly basis, with one of the card’s availability spilling over into the following year.
